Not all wines are made to be tasted at the same age
First, you have to keep in mind that not all wines are made to be aged. Or rather, it is a shame to age certain wines because they could simply fade away. So you could uncork a bottle of wine fresh out of your wine cellar and feel nothing. That is sad and it is a shame. So you must not miss the best moment to drink your wine. By the way, there are wine cellar management apps that let you avoid forgetting bottles in your cellar and receive an alert when one of your bottles reaches its peak. Anyway, let us get back to our subject. That is: when to drink your wine?
When to drink your wine?
The first thing to know is that the vast majority of wines are not made to be aged. The first thing you can do is refer to the label on the wine bottle or to your conversation with the producer. They normally have a good idea of when their wine should be drunk.
Why age wine?
Some great wines age extremely well and are even all the more precious for ageing. This is the case, broadly, for the grands crus across all regions. When you first start taking an interest in wine, you often drink wines that are too young. So do not make this mistake and keep some of your bottles in the cellar. By the way, it is an excellent exercise to buy several copies of the same vintage. Then try to taste it a few years apart. You will then see that the wine changes a lot.

Ageing rosé
Can you age rosé? That is a good question. Generally speaking, the answer is no. That said, you can find rosé wines of great quality. In that sense, it can be worth keeping a few copies to age them: you might get some surprises.
Ageing champagne
Champagne, for its part, can be kept for many years. If you want to age champagne, turn to a great house or in any case make sure of the product’s quality. Of course, choose a bottle that itself bears a vintage so you know how long it can be kept. You can reckon on between 10 and 15 years without any problem for a good champagne.
Protecting your bottles during ageing
If you want to age your wine, three things need to be taken into account: the label on your bottle, its cork and the storage conditions.
Protecting the labels on your wine bottles
Let us start with the label on the wine bottle. It is particularly important, especially if you invest in wine. Being able to read the label on a wine bottle in very good condition is reassuring as to the authenticity of the wine on the one hand and as to the quality of its storage. If you want to protect your labels from humidity and dust, you can wrap your bottles in cellophane film before placing them in the cellar.
Replacing the cork on your wine bottles
The cork on a wine bottle is an extremely important part of its storage. It is through the cork that air exchanges can take place. Over time, the cork can gradually degrade and give faults to the wine. If you want to keep your wines for many years, you will need to choose the right wine cellar with the perfect humidity to avoid the cork degrading. Moreover, some great houses can offer to recondition certain bottles in order to preserve the oldest vintages.
Choosing the right wine cellar
Finally, to age your wine well, you must take care to store it in good conditions. So you have to choose the perfect wine ageing cellar. For this, many things need to be checked, such as the temperature of the wine cellar or the humidity of the wine cellar. To learn more about this, articles are available on the blog and are in the podcast description. And there you go, well done, you now know how to age your wine.
